VOLUNTEERING & EMPLOYMENT

We are a relatively small organisation, employing a small visitor services team with seasonal staff in the cafe, shop and gate and just ten full time animal keepers. All our keepers are required to have, or to be training towards, an appropriate zoo animal management qualification.

We are currently seeking the following full/part-time staff to boost our team over the peak season:

Seasonal Cooks/Bakers (competitive rates)
Applicants must have relevant Food Hygiene/Cooksafe qualifications and baking skills. You should have experience of dealing with a high volume of visitors and proven customer care and supervisory skills.

Seasonal Staff (£6.47 per hour)
Working in our shop, café, tours and ticketing areas, applicants must be polite and enthusiastic team players, with experience of working in a similar environment advantageous.

To apply, please email a covering letter and CV to recruitment@rzss.org.uk by the closing date of Monday 5th March 2012. Interviews are scheduled to take place on 12th and 13th March. For more information please visit our vacancies pages.

VOLUNTEERING & STUDENT WORK PLACEMENTS
Our volunteer programme is especially appropriate for students undertaking an animal-related course of study (such as Animal Management, Animal Sciences, Conservation Education) who need first-hand work experience. We have now expanded our volunteeer programme to include volunteers in our Education Department; please note that you will either be an Animal Volunteer or an Education Volunteer (there is no overlap); please therefore ensure that you submit the correct application form. Due to the limited places available on our programme and the high number of applications we receive, we normally have to restrict acceptance to students whose course includes mandatory work placement. Note that we take volunteers over 20 years of age only and you must ideally be able to stay for a minimum of one month. As we have only a small team of keepers, it is important that volunteer keepers work well with others and have a good standard of spoken English.

There is free bothy accommodation onsite for volunteers if required (a small non-refundable fee is requested to cover admin & maintenance costs). We can arrange for volunteers to be picked up from our nearest railway station at Kingussie.

Further information plus full details of requirements, including how to apply, are contained in the application form.

If this information is of interest to you and you decide you would like to spend some time with us, please complete the volunteer application form and, following the instructions carefully, return it to us, marking it for the attention of the Animal Department Administrator or e-mail to jmorse@rzss.org.uk
